I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about our practice, Fifth Avenue Dental Associates. It is a group specialty office primarily devoted to implant surgery. We take a team approach, and to that end, we are readily available to assist the GP in treatment planning cases. What separates our office from most others is that we adhere to the following philosophy: Implant cases need to be driven by prosthetics, not surgery. Few surgical offices truly understand the concept, let alone adhere to it.
Ask yourself:
Unfortunately, those problems are routine because too many surgeons have a backwards approach to implant dentistry. It is, in fact, the GP who needs to be in the driver’s seat. Only after the general dentist decides what kind of prosthesis will be constructed can the specific implant requirements, including number, size, and location, be determined. The whole purpose of implant surgery is to support the prosthesis, not the other way around. The surgeon must place the fixtures in positions that best accommodate the restorative dentists. If bone volume or density is inadequate, a graft procedure should be considered.
The surgeons at Fifth Avenue Dental have been trained to approach implant placement with a restorative perspective. Our oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Lee, received his training at Columbia University and Mt. Sinai Hospital. He holds a dual degree (DDS and MD) and was formerly in practice with Dr. Leonard Linkow. Our staff also includes a Misch-trained implantologist (Dr. Jacobson), and two periodontists (Dr. Borger and Dr. Sinensky). When you get a case back from Fifth Avenue Dental, you will be able to confidently proceed with your treatment plan. On the fixed cases, we are often even able to provide you with the final abutments.
I realize that adding another specialty practice to your referral network is a big step. However, I am confident that we will establish a long, mutually beneficial relationship.
